Two is better than one…
On Friday we had two Unified Theater shows in two different states - road trip!
We started off in Colchester, Connecticut for their “Hollywood Revealed” production (see the photos here). Fifty students from William J Johnston Middle School took the stage with songs, skits, jokes, dances, and a live orchestra! The students went above and beyond for their first Unified Theater production. Their multi-colored shirts (thanks Starbucks for helping decorate) added pizazz and cameos by pop culture icons (Katy, Gaga, Beibs, Jay Z, Avril, to name a few) filled the auditorium with laughter. It was a great show and the student leader team - Jake, Katie, Ian, Becca, Alexi, Gabby, Cassie, and John - deserves a standing ovation. A huge thank you to Laura Kreneki for supporting this group each step of the way.
Next stop was in Rhode Island for Middletown High School and Gaudet Middle School’s “Saturday Night Live” production (see photos here). This groups first production, last year, proved they had a comedic flair - so they themed a whole show around it. We were excited to see returning students take center stage alongside some new faces. Show highlights were the butt races (had to be there…), the Ice Cream Freeze free style, the story behind Gaga’s meaty fashion choices, and Pat giving Ryan Seacrest a run for his money. Senior goodbyes were bittersweet, with so many great performers moving on after graduation. We’ll be especially sad to lose the student leader, Ryan Leys, who started this group. But, know advisor Chyleene O’Connor will have another great student leader team to work with next year. Congrats to Ryan, Chyleene, and the whole Middletown crew on another amazing show!
Rehearsals in Connecticut and a show in Massachusetts this week means we’re taking UT on the road again… check back!
